Atlántico MotorFest 2026 kicks off

The Atlántico Shopping Center, in collaboration with the Canary Islands Automobile Federation, has presented the first edition of Atlántico MotorFest, an initiative aimed at motorsport enthusiasts that will bring together workshops, exhibitions, and top-level competition vehicles, including the iconic cars of Iván Armas and the spectacular “Elefante Rosa” truck from Dakar Por La Vida.

The presentation event was attended by prominent figures from both the institutional and motorsport worlds, such as rally driver Iván Armas; Dakar driver Rafa Lesmes; the president of the Canary Islands Automobile Federation, Miguel Ángel Domínguez; the mayor of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Francisco García; the manager of FREDICA, Rafael Pombriego; and the manager of the Atlántico Shopping Center, Alberto Medina.

During his speech, Miguel Ángel Domínguez congratulated the shopping center on this new stage and expressed his gratitude for Iván Armas’ involvement: “He is always there when we call him.” He also highlighted the appeal of the vehicles on display, including a Porsche and a BMW “which is a true museum piece.” Domínguez also emphasized the municipality’s commitment to motorsport, underlining that Santa Lucía hosts major events throughout the year and has a growing international projection.

For his part, Mayor Francisco García reaffirmed the City Council’s support for motorsport: “We have always believed in competition, not only because of our roads and landscapes, but also because of the great passion we have.” He also highlighted the synergy between commerce and sport, pointing out the active role of the Atlántico Shopping Center in promoting local sports.

Renowned driver Iván Armas highlighted the strong motorsport tradition in the Canary Islands: “Motorsport is deeply rooted in the islands.” He also recalled that the Rally of Gran Canaria was the first in Spain and emphasized the enthusiasm of the fans: “Here, it’s not just about race day, but everything surrounding it, from training sessions to private tests.”

Along the same lines, Rafa Lesmes, two-time Dakar Classic champion, welcomed the initiative and highlighted the visual impact of competition vehicles: “A Dakar truck is impressive because of its size, its wheels, and its suspension.” He also expressed his pride in the hosting of international events on the islands and praised both the organization and the behavior of the spectators.

Finally, Alberto Medina, manager of the Atlántico Shopping Center, underlined the venue’s strong commitment to motorsport in a particularly significant year: “We are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Rally Islas Canarias, a key milestone. At CC Atlántico, we are committed to disruption in marketing actions, with a strong focus on creating a unique and innovative visitor experience.” Medina also highlighted the goal of turning the center into a meeting point for families, offering unique experiences for both residents and tourists.

With Atlántico MotorFest 2026, Santa Lucía de Tirajana once again positions itself as a motorsport hub in the south of the island, strengthening its connection with a passion that transcends generations.
